Why David Letterman Is Hilarious: A Video Refresher Course

In 1986, 11-year-old RJ White saw Late Night With David Letterman for the first time.

I’d occasionally stayed up on a Friday night to see the Tonight Show, but there was that one time that I finally broke the barrier and didn’t go to bed at 12:30.

It was amazing. From then on, I’d set my top-loading hand-me-down VHS recorder just about every night, then watch when I got home from school. It was weird, it was sarcastic, it was cheap-looking, it made this kid in Webberville, MI feel like he was in on the joke that this whole tele-vision (and entertainment) thing was all fake, anyway, so what the heck?

Anyway, thirty years is amazing and the man is undeniably a legendary broadcaster and an idol of mine. Go, watch this slideshow thing and see why.
